Growing Up As A ’90s Kid
As a kid growing up in the 90s, life felt like it was straight out of a nostalgic movie.
The days were filled with endless adventures, fuelled by imagination rather than screens.
Back then, getting your hands on the latest toy or gadget was a big deal, but it didn’t define our childhoods like it does today.
I remember the excitement of finally convincing my parents to buy me my first proper phone when I turned 13. It wasn’t anything fancy, just a basic flip phone with polyphonic ringtones. But to me, it was a symbol of independence, a ticket to join the digital world that was rapidly unfolding.
Unlike today’s kids who seem to be born with smartphones in hand, we had to earn our way into the world of technology.
In those days, the internet was a luxury that came with its own set of challenges.
Connecting meant dialing up through the phone line, which often meant I couldn’t use the internet if my mum was on the phone.
There were countless times when I eagerly sat down at the family computer, only to hear her voice chatting away in the other room, signalling that my online adventures would have to wait.
