I gave you everything.
My heart, my time, my energy — every part of me was yours for the taking.
And take, you did.
You didn’t just take what I offered; you took more.
You took my trust, my peace of mind, my ability to believe in love without fear.
And when you were done, you left me with nothing but the pieces of myself I had to figure out how to put back together.
I believed in us.
I believed in you.
Even when the signs were there — small, nagging doubts I buried deep because I wanted to see the best in you — I pushed them aside.
I told myself, “This is love. Love is sacrifice.”
But what I failed to realise is that love shouldn’t feel like sacrifice all the time.
Love shouldn’t mean giving up pieces of yourself while someone else takes without giving back.
You were my person, or at least I thought you were.
I confided in you, shared my dreams, my fears, my everything.
And you?
You held my vulnerability in your hands, not to protect it, but to break it.
