“How did you know that?”

“Because I know you.”

To be loved is to be known.

It’s the little things that make the biggest difference — like someone remembering that you prefer your coffee with two sugars or texting you about an obscure song you mentioned once because they noticed how your eyes lit up when you talked about it.

I remember a colleague sharing her story about her partner bringing home her favourite cake one evening.

She asked, “How did you know I needed this today?” and he replied, “You always reach for something sweet when you’ve had a rough day.” She hadn’t said a word about her bad mood, but he just knew.

Another time, I was at a wedding where the groom’s vows included, “I promise to keep a steady supply of sour gummies in the cupboard because you eat them when you’re overthinking.” It wasn’t just funny — it was a testament to how well he understood her.

In the Korean drama Crash Landing on You, there’s a powerful moment when Captain Ri finds Seri holding a scented candle, alone in the woods.

She had been struggling with the overwhelming emotions of her situation — stuck in North Korea, away from her familiar life.
