Why Putting Yourself First Isn’t Selfish
Did you know that according to a study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, people who put others’ needs over their own often experience higher levels of stress and burnout?
It’s true.
The constant pressure to be there for everyone else can take a serious toll on your mental and emotional well-being.
I’ve seen it firsthand — people who are so busy looking out for everyone else that they forget to look out for themselves.
They push their own needs aside, ignore their own feelings, and end up feeling drained and exhausted.
And you know what’s even worse?
Sometimes, people start taking advantage of that kindness.
They see you as someone they can rely on to always be there, no matter what.
They start taking you for granted, assuming that you’ll drop everything to help them out.
Remember, taking care of yourself isn’t selfish.
It’s actually one of the most important things you can do.
Think about it — you can’t pour from an empty cup, right?
